Ximena is the Executive Director at TIPS. She holds a Masters of Commerce degree, specialising in Trade Economics. Ximena was previously at the Delegation of the European Commission to South Africa, where she started as their in-house economist and later moved on to become a Programme Officer for Local Economic Development.

Chief Operations Officer and CWP Programme Manager
Juanita Pardesi has more than 16 years’ experience working at local, national, regional and international levels in project design, development, management and evaluation. Before joining TIPS she was chief operations officer at the DFID-funded ComMark Trust – a grant-making agency aimed at supporting pro-poor, private sector development through implementing the “making markets work for the poor” approach.

Head of Research at TIPS
Myriam is in charge of research at TIPS. She has expertise in a range of development economics areas. She has worked on a great number of areas and projects (amongst others on gender, labour, trade, investment, etc.), generally with others.
Myriam has worked and is still part time researcher at the School of Development Studies at the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal where she worked for many years before joining TIPS. Myriam has a PhD in (International) Economics from Sussex University.

Kate is a development strategist with over 20 years experience in social and economic policy development and implementation.

Programme Manager: Sustainable Growth
Peet has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pretoria. After working in energy R&D at the national utility Eskom, he joined the global environmental NGO, WWF, as Trade & Investment Advisor for South Africa. He was elected in 2009 as chair of the South African green industries association, the Environmental Goods and Services Forum. His areas of expertise lie in networked infrastructure (including energy, transport and ICT) and the economics of sustainability.

Assistant Programme Manager
Mbofholowo Tsedu is a researcher with a B Comm. Economics degree from the University of Pretoria. He is currently contracted to TIPS as an Assistant Programme Manager for the Industrial Development pillar primarily focused on trade and industrial policy issues. Mbofholowo has been engaged in numerous industry-related research. He also has been responsible for providing supplementary research support to TIPS’s other pillars. Mbofholowo is currently enrolled in a Msc programme focused on Industrialisation, Trade and Economic Policy at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland.

Junior Economist
Sithembiso Mtanga joined TIPS in April 2007 on a three-month internship programme. Whilst completing his Honours degree in General Economics at the University of Johannesburg, he assisted on a project for the Presidency, focusing on Economic Trends in South Africa, which involved rapporteuring on a number of sector-oriented workshops. During his internship, Sithembiso also provided assistance in TIPS' Resource department by cataloguing research papers and their abstracts for the Industrial Policy Reference Resource.

Junior Economist
Evans Chinembiri is currently working at TIPS as a junior economist responsible for Quantitative Data analysis. He holds an Honors degrees in Natural Resource management and Agriculture. He undertook a Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Economics at the University of Zimbabwe and is working towards the completion of his MSc in Agricultural Economics at the University of Pretoria.

Junior Economist
Dinga Fatman is in the process of completing his Masters degree in Economics at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He joined TIPS in 2011 to provide research assistance in the industrial development pillar. His Masters dissertation topic was entitled: “Labour Regulations and Firm Performance in South Africa”. Dinga’s general research interests involve South Africa’s investment climate issues.

Junior Economist
Gaylor joined TIPS as a Junior Economist in December 2011 to provide research assistance in the sustainable growth pillar. Prior to TIPS, Gaylor was an Economic Attaché at the Department of Economic Affairs for Southern Africa (French Treasury) of the Embassy of France in South Africa. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance and Political Science, and a Master’s degree in International Affairs from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques (Sciences Po) of Grenoble, France.

HR & Office Manager
Ipeleng Mohlala joined TIPS in October 2007 as Office Administrator and her role has evolved to an Office Manager. She holds a National Diploma in HR Management and Certificates in Payroll Administration. She has over 8 years working experience and her focus has been in administration, events and HR. Her responsibilities at TIPS include HR administration, contracts and events management.

Internal Communications / Website Manager
Tanya Claassen joined TIPS for the second time round in August 2009 as a Office Coordinator and PA to the Executive Director and now the duty of Web Administrator, IT Support and Internal Communications Coordinator.
She has past experience in Administration, Graphic Design, Legal Advise on Mortgage Bonds and Events Coordination. She resided in Botswana before moving permanently to South Africa in February 2008. She has over 10 years work experience which include national / international experience in United States of America, United Kingdom and Botswana.

Assistant Accountant
Cynthia Chiororo is a Chartered Certified Accountant with over 8years of accounting experience. Prior to joining TIPS, she was with Concern Worldwide where she gained extensive experience in financial management for NGOs. She is overally in charge of all TIPS finances including budgeting and financial reporting. Cynthia holds a BCompt degree from the University of South Africa and ACCA Professional Qualification.

Rozale Sewduth has over 7 years of working experience. During this period, her core responsibilities included customer relations, staff supervision, and office administration and personal assistant duties. She has extensive event management experience. Rozale has worked both locally and internationally: United States of America, United Kingdom and South Africa. Rozale has a diploma in Business Management and Administration from Campus College.

I have worked in the Travel industry as a travel consultant for various agencies and also have a brief background in project management as a conference producer which involved research and programme compilation but most of my experience lies in client liaison, sales and project co-ordination.

Research Fellow
Rob Davies is a Zimbabwean economist who lives in Harare. He was associated with the University of Zimbabwe for more than 30 years. He has also taught at Universities in South Africa, the UK and the US. He is currently a research associate with the HSRC and works closely with TIPS, both in South Africa.

Glen Robbins is a part time Researcher at the School of Development Studies, University of KwaZulu-Natal and freelance consultant specialising in regional and local economic development with a focus on regional and city economic development strategies, infrastructure planning and financing and trade and industrial policy. Previously he headed up the Economic Development and City Enterprises functions in the eThekwini Municipality (Durban).

Research Fellow
Dirk van Seventer lives in New Zealand. He studied economics in the Netherlands and subsequently worked for 20 years as an economic analyst in South Africa amongst others as a research fellow at TIPS. After a 6 year stint at the New Zealand Department of Labour Dirk van Seventer has recently rejoined TIPS as a part-time research fellow. His work focuses on trade and economy-wide policy analysis and capacity building.

Mike de Klerk is the Agricultural Policy Programme Manager at TIPS. He has a wealth of experience in the Agricultural Economics field, having lectured at the Universities of the Witwatersrand and Cape Town and authored numerous articles on agrarian policy in South Africa, rural development, land reform and employment. In 1998, Mike joined the Land Bank as General Manager: Research and Development.

Research Fellow
Ellen Hagerman has nearly 10 years of experience working on regional economic development issues including trade, infrastructure, food security and governance. She has worked for the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) for 13 years as a Program Manager and Senior Analyst and has covered a diversity of other issues including corporate social responsibility and global environmental issues.

Josephine is a research fellow at TIPS. She holds a Masters degree in Agricultural Economics from Stellenbosch University She has experience in undertaking transdisciplinary research focused on integrating economics into sustainable resource management and solving complex social and environmental problems through application of economic analysis and system dynamics modelling. Her particular interests are on social, environmental and resource management and policy challenges including energy, climate change, water, land use and waste management.

Mmatlou is a research fellow at TIPS, specialising in trade research. He also carries out TIPS' capacity-building initiatives in the Southern African region, providing training courses on applied analytical and methodological tools. He currently holds a position in the Department of Agricultural Economics at the University of Pretoria.
