Trade and Poverty Case Study: Small household appliances

This case study is part of a much larger research project on trade and poverty in South Africa. The overarching project borrows from the framework developed by McCulloch, Winters and Cirera (2001) to demonstrate the different channels through which trade can impact on poverty and economic development. In particular, the project tries to measure the impact on households from lower prices and changes in production and employment in the effected industries. This is achieved by quantitative analyses as well as five sector-specific case studies.
