The primary objectives of the Centre for Real Economy Study (Crest) are to catalyse economic research with a sectoral focus, especially relatively under-researched service sectors, and to improve the flow of information on relevant research between the policy and academic communities.

What is TIPS?

TIPS is an independent, not-for-profit economic research institution that has been actively supporting the development of economic policy since its inception in 1996. We facilitate policy development and dialogue across six key policy pillars including Trade, African Economic Integration, Industrial Development, Inequality and Economic Marginalisation, Sustainable Growth and Rural Development. We work closely with economic policy stakeholders in South Africa and beyond into Africa, particularly from the public sector and civil society, drawing from our networks with academia and other research partners across the continent and beyond.

Industrial Policy Reference Resource

An abiding concern of policy-makers and the broader research community is limited access to industrial policy-related research and literature. TIPS has developed an online, searchable library of key South African and international references on industrial policy and related subjects. To comply with copyright legislation, the bibliography itself and an abstract for each paper are readily accessible; however, access to the full papers are restricted to registered users who can contact TIPS to request a printed or electronic copy of particular papers of interest.
