Gillian Chigumira

  • Position: Economist

Gillian Chigumira has a Masters in Commerce – Development Theory and Policy. She has an Honours in Commerce, Honours in International Relations and a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Anthropology from the University of the Witwatersrand. She worked at the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA) as a Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Scholar on projects related to Africa’s trade and engagement with BRICS, and at Rethink Africa on dialogues and policy notes focusing on inequality, minimum wages and privatisation, in collaboration with Oxfam, Studies in Poverty and Inequality Institute (SPII) and Rosa Luxemburg Foundation.

Gillian is a Mellon Mays and Canon Collins Fellow and attended summer school at Emory University, Bowdoin College, and Bryn Mawr in the US. Her interests lie in industrialisation, agro-processing, urban regeneration, inclusive growth, conflict resolution and diplomatic negotiations in Africa.
